A range of diagnostic assessment tests are administered to establish
the individual’s strengths and weaknesses to classify their
needs.
This is an in-depth assessment using psychological assessments
and standardised attainment tests. It also takes into account developmental
history, family history, and current situation.
The individual is provided with a full diagnostic assessment report
clearly setting out the findings from each individual test and conclusion
from analysing all of the scores.
A diagnostic assessment report for an individual under the age
of 16 years old can help to determine a ‘Statement’
of Educational Needs and access arrangements for examinations.
However, in some cases the school or Local Educational Authority
may wish to commission a diagnostic assessment report from their
preferred Educational Psychologist.

For individuals over the age of 16 years, a diagnostic assessment
report is a legally acceptable document for obtaining access arrangements
at further education college, university or professional qualification
awarding body, disability student allowance (DSA), reasonable adjustments
in the workplace, industrial tribunal and in a court of law.
The diagnostic assessment takes approximately 2.5 hours from which
the report is written.
It can be undertaken at the Dyslexia Awareness UK offices, at the
home of the individual or other mutually convenient venue.
